About the Course
Cryptocurrency is no longer a future issue for law enforcement. It is showing up today in fraud cases, narcotics investigations, financial crimes, and beyond. Yet most agencies still lack the policies, tools, and infrastructure to properly investigate, seize, recover, or return digital assets. This course changes that. Cryptocurrency in Law Enforcement: Policy, Procedure, and Compliance is a practical, step-by-step training designed to take your agency from uncertainty to capability. Rather than focusing on theory, this course delivers a working roadmap you can implement immediately, covering policy development, investigative processes, legal considerations, agency infrastructure setup, and wallet management. You will learn how cryptocurrency is being used in criminal activity, how to make the case to leadership for building a program, how to define roles across patrol, investigations, and finance, and how to avoid the most common pitfalls agencies encounter when getting started. Whether you are an investigator encountering cryptocurrency for the first time or a supervisor tasked with building your agency's program, this course gives you the framework to do it right. What You Will Learn: - How cryptocurrency is used in modern criminal investigations - How to identify your agency's need and build a request for leadership approval - How to define roles, establish internal controls, and apply "arms-length" principles - How to develop forms, affidavits, and letters of instruction - How to establish an agency cryptocurrency email and communicate with exchanges using KODEX - How to obtain freeze warrants and navigate the legal process with exchanges - How to set up and manage agency wallets for holding, investigative, and recovery purposes - How to document cryptocurrency evidence and track it through your property system - What not to do, including common failures and lessons learned from other agencies Who Should Attend This training is designed for sworn members of the criminal justice community, including investigators, supervisors, command staff, financial crimes and fraud personnel, and agency leadership responsible for policy and program development.
